I am amazed at how quickly The BumbleBee Fund is growing and how many people are getting behind what we are trying to do. I just want to say thank you to all who have donated money, offered their time, and shared The BumbleBee Fund with their families and friends.
We have hit the first bump in our journey. After our church researched the specifics of becoming The BumbleBee Fund's fiduciary sponsor, they have decided that they will not be able to sponsor us (yet). So, for the time being we will only be able to accept NON-tax deductible donations.
Here is a quick IRS lesson for everyone out there thinking of starting their own non-profit. If you plan on raising less than $10,000 you have to pay $400 to the IRS to apply for tax exemption status, if you plan on raising more you have to pay $850. After our first month in existence, I have realized that I was thinking way too small when I made our 1st goal of raising $500 to pay for all of our organizational fees. I have spoken to grant writers, our board of directors, and many donors and we are definitely going to qualify for the higher tier. I have brought back our ChipIn widget and you can see on the right how we are doing with our new goal.
Please share The BumbleBee Fund with as many people as you can, and as always please consider a donation, we can't do this without you.
